Adding surge protection to a very old apartment?

A friend of mine has just moved into a very old apartment building (1908) and all the plugs are only 2 prong. The main concern here is she has a decent amount of high end electronics (LCD tv, stereo ect) and we are looking for a way to add a surge protector to one outlet to protect her equipment.

I’ve read that adding a GFCI outlet will add short protection but im a little confused if adding one of these will permit a surge protector to function properly?

Yes it will. Or if you want to spend a little more money, you can add a whole house surge protector like this one.
