Well my house is about 80 years old and im not sure when the last time the wiring was redone but all the sockets in the house are 2 prong except in the bathrooms because they were recently redone. I have a surge protector and I used a 3 to 2 converter and tried grounding the wire off the converter to the screw in the middle of the socket. The light on my surge protector is still saying not properly grounded. Do I still have protction from a surge if its not grounded properly?
No, not unless you have had earthing rods or straps fitted wihin the electrical system, even if you are using 3 to 2 converters, the third earthing pin has to go somewhere properly earthed to make it safe.
