Surge protection for computer (like from lightning storms)?

Apparently we need a surge protector thingy, as our computer gets fried every single time there is a storm, and it’s £80 to fix.*
Do these protector things work? I had a look in an argos catalog, and they just looked like normal plugs.
Are they worth buying?


*Basically the guy said that static had fryed the Ram sticks? (I think he said sticks, I can’t remember.)

For surge protection it was ok but there isn’t any device that protect your Pc or anything from lightning storms
SO, unplug the cable is the best idea
