Will a surge protector provide surge protection if the appliance cord has no gfci ground prong?

I have an air conditioner window unit that is hard to get to so I want to put a power cord to it that has a on/off switch that way I don’t have to pull the blinds up and pull the curtains back to access the thermostat on the ac.

yes. A gfci is a ground fault interrupter that is basically a protection for you if water comes in contact with the electricity going to the appliance (it kills the power to it). Surge protectors are used if there is and electrical overload. Plugging the unit into a surge protector will ensure protection of and overload (as long at the protector is working properly).
